Local Fire Crew-Visit the hollies

We were delighted when the crew from Beaconside Fire station paid a visit to The Hollies on Friday 5 April 2019, to discuss the vital and varied work they carry out in the community – attending fires, flood rescue, animal rescue and attending road traffic accidents.

Chief fire officer Roger Prenter-Jones spoke to the students about careers in the fire service and new recruit 20 year old Ashley Renshaw who has recently finished her training was definitely an inspirational role model for our female pupils.

To compliment the work we do in our PSHE lessons Mr Prenter-Jones also talked about the serious problems faced by the fire service and the potentially devastating consequences of antisocial behaviours such as hoax calls, deliberate fire starting, drink driving and the use of mobile phones whist driving.

Year 9 pupil Fin said “I would like to look at a career in the fire service, and it's really made me think what could happen to me or my family if my local fire engine was called away because of a hoax or a deliberate fire and I needed them”.

Thank you to the crew from Stafford Fire Service : Roger Prenter-Jones, Andy Cook, Philip Salwey, Chris Andrews and Ashley Renshaw .
